The Borough of Brentwood was originally part of Baldwin Township which included the villages of Brentwood, Pointview and Whitehall. This was one of the most densely populated parts of the Township at the time. This community grew up along Brownsville Road (then known as Southern Avenue). The primary industry of this area at that time was mining. Brentwood's 880 acres covered approximately one-tenth of the Township and was known as the Second Edition District. The Borough was incorporated in January 1916 and petitioners were represented by C.H. Bracken.
Brentwood now contains 929.9 acres or 1.457 square miles. This increase was due to a change of boundaries in the Brentwood Villa Plan of lots, Willet-Kingsley Avenue area. In 1929, residents of the Brentwood Villa Plan petitioned Brentwood Borough Council to annex this section which was ultimately done.
