Consider Running for the Board of Directors

Have you ever considered running for the Board of Directors of the Chamber?  Our election will take place on June 3, 2010, at our General Luncheon.  We will be electing four people to fill four open board positions.  You can nominate yourself or another member. Each nomination should include a 50 word biography and can be submitted to the Chamber Secretary by May 13, 2010.  Being on the board is a wonderful learning experience.  Our board is one of the most hard-working, diverse and creative groups ever!  Everyone brings something to the table and shares the workload. Consider nominating a member to lead the Chamber over the next three years.

DONATE YOUR USED EYEGLASSES

When you get new eyeglasses, what do you do with the old ones? Most of us toss them in a drawer or box and just forget about them. Now you can do something worthwhile with them. You can donate them to the Whitehall Community Lions Club and they will be recycled for use in developing countries. As you do your spring cleaning, check those drawers and boxes and bring your used eyeglasses to the next Chamber meeting on June 4.

Lions clubs throughout the world have been recycling eyeglasses for more than 80 years. The donated eyeglasses are sent to one of thirteen Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers where Lions volunteer their time and services to prepare the eyeglasses for distribution by cleaning and categorizing each pair by prescription. Optical missions sponsored by Lions clubs and other groups distribute donated eyeglasses to needy people. Currently, it costs less than eight cents to provide someone with recycled eyeglasses.

All types of eyeglasses and sunglasses, prescription and non-prescription, are acceptable. Reading glasses are also useful because many recipients are in need of visual correction to help them perform close-up tasks. Sunglasses are needed by people living near the equator in order to shield their eyes from the sun’s damaging rays.

The goal of the program is to meet the demand for quality eyeglasses in developing nations. The Whitehall Community Lions Club thanks you for your participation in this important program.
