Minding your p’s and q’s

As we wind down for our summer break, we are going out with a blast, not a whimper! We have Chamber business to attend to and lots of partying—but we call that networking and that’s business too!

At our next meeting, we will be electing four people to fill four three-year terms of office and one person to fill the unexpired term of Mac McIlrath who is resigning from the board because of a work scheduling conflict. That is why I am delighted at the excellent slate of candidates. Everyone of our nominees brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to business and community, and I thank them for their willingness to run for office. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please request an absentee ballot from our secretary, Mary Dilla.

Also at the luncheon, you will find a survey form, and I hope everyone will put on their thinking caps and give us some honest feedback about our chamber programs. Board member, John Frombach, did an amazingly thorough job designing the survey and it will challenge you to thoughtfully fill it out. But we welcome and need your feed back!

Now for some fun: Mac McIlrath tells me there are still openings for the 3rd Annual Community Golf Outing. You need to be a resident of one of our communities to participate. If you ever wanted to play the course at SHCC, this is your chance and the price is great! Only $50!

Eagle Mortgage Associates is hosting their 4th Annual BBQ at West Mifflin Community Park on June 12. Five local chambers will be participating. This means good food and great networking. Check your email for the invitation. Then June 18, Royal Mile Reality is hosting a pool party! Rain or shine!

Special thanks to Brentwood Giant Eagle, owner Bob Och, and managers Dan and Michelle Cheberenchick for hosting their 5th Annual Entrepreneur Day in conjunction the National Take Your Child to Work Day. Eleven students from Brentwood High School were treated to lunch, a tour of the nine businesses and an opportunity to get pointers on employment protocol from the human resource director.

It has been my pleasure to serve as your president this year. This is my 6th year on the board, and I think this year was the best board I have ever worked with. Individually and collectively, they worked to responsibly serve your interests. The Chamber regretfully accepts the resignation of Mac McIlrath. He will be missed at board meetings, but we expect him to remain an active member. Also, Nick Sirianni has chosen not to run for re-election. We hope Nick enjoys his retirement, and of course, we expect Nick to remain active and thank him for designing and implementing our strategic plan. We appreciate the many years of dedicated service both gentlemen have given to this chamber.

Sincerely,

Dottie
